Writing Sample 30
Nowadays it is so difficult for graduate students to find a job that many high schools tend to teach students some skillful subjects, such as computer, business and communication, while reducing some traditional subjects, such as history, geography. Do you agree or disagree? Give your reasons
There is a growing tendency these days that high schools teach their students practical skills such as how to operate computers, do business and communicate with others for the purpose that he or she could find a good job mafter graduation. Of course it is not to blame for the educational orgnizations to teach students such practical skills for their increasing of competion in the future severe job maekets. But somr schools do that at the cost of reducing or even eliminating tradional subjescts like history, geography and literature. I firmly oppose that behaviour for three reasons as follows.
First, the traditional subjects represent the accumulated wisdom of our ancestors down through the ages, and far from being impractical, thay equipt our offspringswith the knowledge and confidence to make a sound judgement about any problems which may crop up. In addition, traditional subjects train high school students knowledgeable, cultivated and mentally disciplined, while practical subjects train them proficiency in performing skills rather than their qualities demanded by modern civilized societies.
Last but not least, as an old saying goes," Man cannot live by bread alone." A citizen should care about his surroundings and community not only himself. It also benefits him to learn about mankind's advances in history, geography and other aspects, as result of which he concludes the rules of progressing of mankind including himself.
To sum up, tradional subjects play essential part in high school education. They cannot be replaced or reduced. (243 words)
